In a rather unique accident, a 2001 Dodge Ram carrying 20 passengers recently crashed into a tree after running of the road in LaGrange, Georgia earlier this week. Of the 20 Hispanic passengers, 14 were injured and two died as a result of the crash. Authorities investigating the scene said the van was returning from a trip to Florida but they are still uncertain as to why the van ran off the roadway. Of the 14 injured in the Georgia auto accident, 7 were flown by helicopter and other 7 were taken via EMS to local hospitals in the area. At this point, it is still uncertain if the driver of the vehicle will be charged in the accident.

In the event that the driver of the vehicle is subsequently charged or later determined to have committed some form of negligence, the injured passengers may be able to file a claim for their injuries. The problem with this an all accidents where multiple people are injured in an auto accident is that only a limited amount of insurance will be available to cover those injured regardless of how many were involved. In many instances like this, it is usually those who file a claim and substantiate their injuries first that get the most reward and compensation for their injuries. As such it is imperative to contact a Georgia personal injury attorney like myself immediately following an auto accident to ensure your rights are fully protected.

Brandon:

There may also be a product liability case involving the van. In April 2001, the NHTSA found that 15 passenger vans had a high propensity to rollover and that they were difficult to control under certain driving conditions. The former Chief of NHTSA called them "death traps."
