Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported this past Friday that an Atlanta woman was hit and killed by an illegal driver in southwest Atlanta.

Her name was Francis Kirby, 52 years old. According to the Fulton County medical examiner’s officials said she was killed instantly.

She was crossing Metropolitan Parkway in the 2600 block after 5 p.m. She was then hit by a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The driver of this car was Frederick D. Slaton, 36 years old. Slaton was driving with a suspended driver’s license and “the ‘taint of alcohol.’”

Police spokesman James Polite said, “Slaton was believed to be under the influence of [an] alcoholic beverage at the time of the accident.”

The driver has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, two counts of DUI and driving with a suspended license.

This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts are with Francis Kirby’s family and friends.
