The Coastal Courier reported that yesterday, a pile-up with a flipped Escalade created major traffic problems on an afternoon during school traffic. This car accident occurred on Highway 84.

“The multi-vehicle accident was like a chain-reaction, according to witnesses Victoria Burns and Lindsay Gaskin.”

Victoria Burns said they were going west on 84 behind the Escalade in the right-hand lane. There was a gray car going west that was at a complete stop in the turning lane to go into the National Guard Armory and Liberty County Recreation Department. Victoria Burns saw the Escalade swerve in front of her and then smash into the stationary car.

Victoria Burns estimated that the Escalade was going about 40 miles per hour. Both of the witnesses ran to the car to find the driver and boy (4 or 5 years old). The boy had cuts on his fingers, but he was fine. The driver and passenger were sent to the hospital and it is unknown which facility they went to.

The fire departments and Hinesville police responded and the Georgia State Patrol came to the scene a bit later.

Do you know what do to if you are in a car accident? As our past post discussed, here is what you need to know if you are in a car accident:

Immediately call the police. When the police arrive, they know exactly what to do. The police will also create a police report after interviewing all witnesses and determining who is at fault.

Make sure everyone else is safe.

Gather information. You must get the other driver’s information such as the vehicle’s VIN number, insurance information, and license plate number.

Seek medical attention/help. Car accidents can cause serious injuries, even injuries that do not arise until much later after the car accident. It is important to see a doctor to evaluate your condition.

If you have a camera, take pictures of the cars involved in the accident.

Call/seek an attorney.

According to Ezine articles, there are several things you MUST not do after you are in a car accident:

Admit fault; leave the scene; wait for insurance companies to contact you or take too much time to call an attorney; sign anything without knowing what the papers say or means.
