The Athens Banner-Herald reported 24 people died in Georgia over the Christmas weekend as a result of car accidents across the state. The Georgia State Patrol predicted only 19 deaths would occur.

The Georgia State Patrol reported 3,325 crashes, 868 injuries, and 24 deaths.

Athens Banner-Herald discusses two accidents. One included Ann Marguerite Overbey, a 35 year old who died in a wreck in Barrow County. She was a passenger of a car driven by her husband and was ejected from the car after it went out of control and overturned. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Another car accident was with Timothy Brian Pettyjohn of Carlton, a 19 year old who died in a crash in Dawson County.

Car accidents can be tragic and deadly.

Seeing as it is New Years Eve, there will be many people out on the road. Please drive safe & think about the safety of our families. Our thoughts are with those families who have lost someone in a tragic car accident.
