After speaking with many, many people concerning the recent pet food recall issued by Menu Foods, Inc., one thing is very clear: The FDA has no idea how widespread this contaminated pet food problem has become. As of Friday, the FDA had confirmed only 16 deaths linked to the pet food, all of which suffered from renal failure. As our Antelope Valley Personal Injury Lawyer, Rick Patterson, correctly noted in a recent blog:

There is no doubt that many are questioning those numbers.

One reason this number may be so far off from the reality of the situation is due to inadequate staffing our Federal Agencies.

As Jean Halloran, director of food policy initiatives for Consumers Union put it "The entire incident merely underscores a need for more funding of the agencies that protect the U.S. food supply. The entire food-safety system is understaffed and under-funded. Of particular concern is the FDA's inspection of imported food."

Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure, when everything has been investigated and brought to light, it will be clear that this contaminated pet food placed into the market by Menu Foods, Inc., will have caused thousands, yes thousands of pet deaths. It will be interesting to see how they choose to address this tragic situation. Thus far, based on the people I have spoke to, the response has been the same over and over: "Someone from Menu Foods will call you back soon, don't worry". A week and a half later, no one has called. Is there still no reason to worry?
