My husband and I own a 2004 Dodge Durango. On March 15, 2007 the car burned down to the ground in our driveway. The car had 42,000 miles on it and was running fine up until then, so I thought. I have always taken it in to our dodge dealer for all service needs on time (oil changes, etc.) The fire started under the hood up near the vents by the windshield. My 2 year old and I had just gotten home a few minutes before and we were inside the house when a neighbor started banging on the front door to let me know my car was on fire in the driveway. We called 911 and he tried to put the fire out with and extinguisher. It didn't do a thing. By the time the fire department came it was completely engulfed in flames. We were not contacted by dodge and had no idea about the recall until it was to late. The car is a total loss. How many people has this happened to? From the info I have found on line it sounds like it has happened to 66 other Durangos. I can't believe that dodge doesn't plan on contacting owners until April. A warning would have been nice. You can bet we will not be getting another Durango. I am thinking about sending the videotape to CNN...
