My beagle is 2 years old and after extensive and expensive testing has been found to have kidney failure. He has been eating a product on the recall list. Nutro, Natural Choice, chicken & rice, chuncks in gravy. 12.5 oz cans UPC code 079105322607. The vet says my dog doesn't have long to live. I believe it's only fair that the food company pick up the expensive vet bills that I have acquired. Do I need a lawyer to represent me? How should I proceed?

I just spent a roller coaster of a last 8 days with my cat Simon, after taking my cat to the vet after 3 days of not eating, lethargy, and vomiting. Find out that there has been a recall of the Iams food that I was feeding to Simon. He only ate one or two pouches and became super sick. I was told by regular vet that he had severe kidney failure and needed immediate attention by the emergency animal hospital. I then took him to Frendship Hospital for Animals.

His kidney's were enlarged with levels of Creatine and another chemical that were 5 times the normal amount. He was place on an aggressive treatment of IV fluids, received an ultrasound, and blood pressure medicine. On his last night in the hospital, he had somewhat of a seizure where he urinated, defecated, and went berserk. The vet believes it is a residual effect of what has happened to his kidneys.

Many times I was told that he was close to dying and could die overnight. Simon is only 8 years old, and sever renal failure is not common for such a young cat, nor are such high levels

Fortunately, I was able to bring him home today, but need to continue with 3 different medications and a daily IV drip. And will need continue such care for about 3 months.

His total medical bill is about $3,000 so far. I have been on hold for IAMS for over 30 minutes now.

My two maltese father and son, stopped eating and
drank excessive water, after taking them to the vet
and having blood work, they discovered renal failure.
They did eat some of those brands, I am so freaking
out, I almost passed out at Petco today.
Their bills will be excessive, who do we talk to
to recover some of our financial loss? I just want
them to be ok, but this is competely something
that shouldn't have happened. All the cheap dog
food was fine! You buy the best because you love
your pet and look what happens.

I believe that I may be one of the few that can prove that the food was responsible all the way through. I still have food in my possession and I also have receipts, with barcodes, for the food already ingested. My cat will not live much longer, as it was too late once we found out the problem, his levels were ten times what they should of been. If and when he does pass, I am having an autopsy done and will file a report with the FDA. It's too late for my cat, but hopefully my documentation will bring some definite answers to all this. My three children and I were already upset enough, now realizing our choice of food was the culprit, makes it even harder.

My cat Red is a normal very healthy cat who went into sudden renal failure - very high creatinine numbers and other odd results - the vet kept asking if he could have been poisoned - then the recall news came out. Yes - he has been eating and only eating NUTRO NATURAL CHOICE - our vet now feels that this is most likely the cause of his illness - i am at about $2000 so far in bills and waiting to see if his numbers come down, will he survive and if he does facing potential lifetime special care. You can't reach anyone at these "caring" companies - will never buy a Nutro product ever agin.

I have just gotten back form my vets office after having to put my best friend to sleep after an sudden onset of Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) which basically killed my 6 year old short hair.

I am not looking for revenge I am simply looking to be reimbursed the $2900.00 in vet fees I have just paid for a 5 day care and subsequent euthanasia of my best friend.

On March 2, 2007, My Scottish Terrier (Laddie) had to be put to sleep because his kidney's had failed and there was nothing the Vet could do that would have changed the outcome, I had to choose between his suffering or letting him go. Laddie was so much a part of my family and my life, there are not enough words that can describe how my heart is breaking.

I had been feeding my Laddie the Old Roy and Mighty Dog pouches/cans and in January 2007, he became really sick. I took him to the Vet and he was given antibotics, which seemed to work for about two weeks, but his symptoms reoccurred. The Vet had expressed concern reqarding his kidneys not working properly. By March 2nd, 2007, the damage had been done. I took him to our Vet again after he became almost lifeless, not eating, drinking continuolsy, urinating fregrently, and the cause was kidney failure; his little body was filled with toxins.

With the recall, I now feel that the cause of his illness was the food. I don't know why I felt the need to send this email, but I had to let someone know how painful losing my Laddie has been and I know now that it was unnecessary.

In January 2007 I had to take my Yorkie Shilah to the vet, and then to the ER for 4 days and found out that Shilah had Renal Kidney Failure. Shilah is only 8 years old and was very healthy baby. I fed Shilah the Ol'Roy pouches that are on the recall list. I did save the receipt or the pouches, so how could I have proof that she is dying because of this food. I just found out by my vet that Shilah has 2 to 6 months to live. I am so angry for I have already spent over $2000.00 on her medical bills. But it's not about the money Shilah's life can never be replaced. She is my baby and this is something that could have been prevented. The doctor says that my baby is dying, so what is this company gonna do about it?

My sisters 11 year old cat Tiger convulsed and died about 2 weeks ago. As horrible as watching that was, having to tell her daughter who was away at boarding school about it was almost as bad.

Not really having an answer about why the cat died at the time, she thought it must have been some type of heart problem...

Now having found out about this recall, she knows the pet food must have been the cause. She had feed the cat several cans of the Pet Pride brand from Kroger that was on the list.

She feels devastated, the guilt from knowing the cat died because of the food she feed him is almost unbearable.
The reports are stating about 10 deaths have occured, but it looks like that number is just the tip of the ice burg...

We had to put our dog to sleep a little over a week ago. She had been ill, vomitting, and losing weight. The vet diagnosed kidney failure after bloodwork and informed us that it was too severe and though we could seek treatment, we should not expect miracles because there wouldn't be one.

Granted, she was 15 but she had been in good health receiving bi-annual checkups with x-rays, blood work, ekg's, etc.

She was fed Iams select bites and the remaining product in our pantry is from the recalled serial numbers.

I have called Iams twice. They have informed me that I will receive a call back from someone but I have not heard anything back yet.

It is very disconcerting that we paid so much for pet food trying to get quality and instead may have ended up with a dog poisoned by her food.

Both my dogs got sick 02/15/07,acute renal failure,the vet thought it could be LEPTO,and I'm disablied with MS so he told me to go to the Emergancy Room and tell them that I probadly was efected with Lepto since both healthy dogs one 6 yo other 4 yo got sick.My little boy died 5 days later,and my little girl is sooo sick fluid therapy doesnt want to eat much.And me I relapsed from stress of thinking I killed my dogs and was in bed for 3 weeks....thinking I did something!Their bloodwork came back no LEPTO!So we just left it at WHY....NOW WE KNOW...they were both on Nutro Ultra with the codes recalled.I'm sick but a parent can't get over the loss of a child when you think that you could of caused it!I feel relieved to here it was a slient killer that I could NOT of not seen!Please Menu Foods tell us what to do with our sick ones.Vet bills at 5000.00

We should contact Kevin Treude to do an investigation on the Manufacture and th FDA to see if there is some kind of link. I believe that the FDA approves this stuff, I wonder what happend ;(

March 16th my boy SHITZU dog , started to have flu like symptoms and throughout the house my husband and I were finding accidents which caused me to think he had caught a virus or otherwise bug. I talked with my daughter she said try pepto, come saturday same scenerio with Jojo but my other two dogs ( Yorkie & Peekignese ) were fine! Sunday I get a call from my daughter ( she has three dogs too) that told me there is a recall on certain WET dog food! I said yep that is the brands IAMS AND MIGHTY DOG we used/use. Today 3/19monday my shitzu boy dog was lethargic and still flulike again--I called the vet she said BRING HIM IN ASAP---so far my bills are up to 500.00 dollars meds exam IV & labs.

I believe we should DEFINATELY file a class action lawsuit if one does not already exsist for this ISSUE with the food company. You all are right when you state these animals are parts of our families...and this should NOT be happening even if it was Cheaper foods they should not kill our ANIMALS!

I am in tears right now reading all of your stories. My little Maltese/Poodle Mix has fallen ill in the last two weeks, the vet told us it was allergies, but now they know it is Renal Failure. Kobe, only 2 years old, has been in the hospital now for 3 days, and they don't know how he will be. He is our baby, and we love him so much. I don't know what we will do without him. I feel like I have poisened my child.
