The attorneys at Childers and Schlueter, LLP continue to review and investigate Dilantin and phenytoin related cases of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TENS). The popular anti-seizure medications have shown likelihood for increased risks of developing SJS and TENS. Stevens Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis are horrible reactions that occur in thousands of consumers each year. Our review of these claims shows a very high incident rates in people of color. The exact rational for these finding has been known to the pharmaceutical industry for years, but little has been done to adequately warn patients and consumers in the United States of this alarming trend. Medical studies and clinical trials to discover more information in this regard are ongoing.

Previously in another blog post we have provided a long list of drugs linked to Stevens Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. Although this is not an all inclusive list, it does show the wide reaching effect of more than 100 medications now believed to cause SJS and TENS. Those within the Dilantin and phenytoin families alone include the following:

Dilantin Infatabs

Dilantin Kapseals

Dilantin-125

Fosphenytoin

Phenytek

Phenytoin sodium

Those with symptoms of SJS or TENS are encouraged to seek emergency medical attention immediately in order to help reduce the often deadly effects of the reactions. Early treatment and evaluation is paramount in trying to control and SJS outbreak.
