Pit Bull Viciously Attacks Roswell Woman

If you have watched the news in Georgia for more than a few days, it will probably come as no surprise to you that dog bites and dog attacks are on a dramatic rise in our great state. The most recent illustration of this rise is shown in a pit bull attack on a Roswell woman that occurred earlier today. The woman was reportedly walking down her side walk when a pit bull broke away from its owner and viciously mauled the innocent Roswell woman who has not yet been identified.

According to wsbtv.com:

Neighbors tried to stop the attack by beating the dog with sticks and shovels, but "they didn't phase him," said Charles Tedford, president of the homeowners association in the Lake Forest subdivision, where the attack occurred.

The dog finally stopped and turned on a neighbor who had been hitting it with a shovel, biting him in the arm, McGee said.

The dog then turned to attack another neighbor who was approaching with a .45-caliber pistol. He killed the dog with one shot to the head, McGee said.

The woman, who was saved by neighbors responding to her screams, was in surgery Friday morning at North Fulton Regional Hospital for severe but non-life threatening injuries, said Roswell Police Lt. James McGee.

Attacks such as this are both tragic and preventable. The owners of dangerous dogs and/or vicious animals in Georgia are charged with the duty of adequately securing their animal to prevent dog bites and attacks such as this one. When owners breach this duty and expose others to personal injury and/or wrongful death, they should be held accountable for their careless actions. In many instances with dangerous dogs, attacks such as this one have happened before in the past and those events can serve to put owners on notice of the animal's violent and dangerous tendencies. When this is the case, Georgia law provides its citizenry an opportunity to hold the liable parties accountable. Those injured or bitten by a dog or dangerous domestic animal should always seek to speak with a Georgia personal injury attorney to ensure their rights are adequately protected.

For more information on this subject, please refer to our section on Property Owners' Liability.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M.
Fatal Drowning Occurs At Goldstar Park

The drowning of a 17-year-old boy who died at a local park is now under investigation in Elmore County. The drowning which occurred earlier this week happened at the Goldstar Park in Alabama. Witnesses indicated the teenager was seen swinging on a rope into the water shortly prior to his death but never surfaced again after doing so. Although the name of this young man has not yet been released, the investigation continues in order to determine what caused this tragic drowning. As more information is released it will be updated here.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M.
Unknown Agent Forces School Evacuation-17 Sent To Hospital

Students at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School were forced to evacuate their school earlier today after an unknown agent caused many to experience problems breathing and very itching skin. Seventeen students had to hospitalized at five different hospitals including North Fulton County for their complications relating to the unknown agent. The local a HazMat team was called to help evacuate the school and help determine what caused the students' sudden illness. At this time however the investigation is still underway as officials are still not certain what caused the problem.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M.
Dangerous Dogs Attack 2 Children In Same Week

Matilynn Williams, a ten year old girl from Tuscaloosa County was recently attacked by two pit bulls on her way to her bus. Matilynn was taken to DCH Regional medical Center where she received numerous stitches for her injuries. The even more appalling part of this dog bite story is that her older brother was attacked by these same two pit bulls just a week before this dangerous dog attack. Sandretta Williams, Matilynn's mother, heard her daughter's screams and raced to her side immediately following the attack.

According to authorities, one of the dogs involved has already been euthanized and the other is expected to be turned over very soon.

Situations like this show just how bad things can get when owners do not properly train and secure their animals. There is no reason for even one dog attack like this occur much less two in one week. The only way to prevent such negligence like this in the future is to hold the responsible owner accountable for allowing their dogs run wild.
At the very least, it will encourage other owners with dangerous dogs to take added precautions to ensure their dogs do not do the same thing to someone else.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M.
Dangerous Dogs Put To Sleep After Killing 2-Year-Old

In a follow up to a recent post on a dog attack that left a 2-year-old girl dead, authorities have stated the responsible dogs have since been put to sleep. The dog attack, which involved a pit bull mix and boxer bull mastiff, occurred after a the dangerous dogs escaped from their fenced in area according to DeKalb spokesman Michael Payne. Although it is still uncertain how the dogs escaped at this time, DeKalb police hope to uncover the mystery after further investigating the tragic situation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M.
Dangerous Dogs Maul 2-Year-Old Georgia Girl To Death

In the latest tale of dangerous dogs in Georgia, a 2-year-old girl was tragically killed after two dogs escaped from their fence and mauled the girl to death. The victim, identified as Robynn Bradley, was reportedly walking beside a fenced in back yard when the two dogs, a boxer mastiff mix and a pit bull mix, attached her. Authorities from the DeKalb Police department are still investigating the incident and no arrests have been made at this time.

Dog bites are on the rise in Georgia. It is apparent that many owners of dangerous dogs like those listed above just do not care enough to ensure their animals do not harm others without cause. When situations like this tragic one arises, the victim and the victim's family should seek to hold the owners liable for their negligent actions. In making the conscious decision to own and keep vicious dogs that they know could ultimately injury someone through their lack of precautions, why shouldn't they be held accountable?

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M. The Fulton County State Court jury, made up of 6 men and 6 women, only had to determine the damages portion of the case after the Judge Craig Schwall held Marta and its representatives in default for destroying crucial evidence and reports. The Judge in commenting on MARTA's actions stated: "I will tell you it's brazen, intentional, deceitful act on the part of MARTA." An appeal in expected to be filed on behalf of MARTA.

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M.
86-Year-Old Woman Attacked By Two Dogs In Cobb County

It seems like every time I pick up a newspaper or read an article online, it illustrates another vicious dog attack. Annie, Maiforth, an 86-year-old Cobb County resident is just the latest victim as two dogs, a German shepherd and Labrador retriever violently attached her earlier this week. The attack left Maiforth with sever injuries which include lacerations to her right arm and inner left thigh. At this point, it is still uncertain what made the dogs attack her as she was checking her mailbox. The owner of the dog is expected to be cited in connection with the attack later this week as they did not have the dogs restrained as required by law.

Typically claims like this, when pursued, compensation is sought through the at fault's parties homeowners insurance or through their personal assets if any. Most home insurance polices are written to cover such unforeseen events such as the dog attack mentioned in this article.
Deck Collapse Injures 4 Potential Homebuyers

A Gwinnett family was looking to buy a home in the area and decided to tour one that caught their eye located at 848 Fieldstream Way in Lawrenceville. According to officials, when the family went out to examine the deck, it collapsed causing injuries to all four family members. Three of the family members were taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center and the other was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. At this time there is still no word on the extent of their injuries or what caused the deck to collapse. Depending on the findings of the pending investigation, the family members involved may have a claim against the homeowner for failure to warn about the dangerous deck and for negligence among various others. The injuries should be covered under the homeowners' insurance policy.

Homeowners' insurance covers a variety of injuries and situations where someone has been injured or hurt in or near the home itself. One of the most common examples most people do not realize can be covered under homeowner's insurance is where a neighbor's dog bites and injuries another. There are many other instances however where the homeowner's insurance may be used to cover someone's injuries due to the negligence of another. For more information on your specific situation, contact one of our personal injury attorneys to see if we can help you out...

Originally posted at InjuryBoard by M.
$4.2 Million Awarded To Woman Shot At Walmart

A Clayton County State Court jury just warded $4.2 million to Katoria Lee, who was shoot at a local Wal-Mart. Lee, who stopped by the local retail giant on March 8, 2001, was approached by a gunman as she was exiting the store around 1:30AM. The gunman demanded her keys and stole her vehicle shortly after shooting her in the back. Lee's complaint alleged Wal-Mart provided inadequate security despite notice of over 398 visits by the police in the 20 months prior to this shooting.

According to the AJC.com:

"That should have been sufficient to put Wal-Mart on notice that crimes were being committed there," said Lance Cooper, Lee's lawyer. "Also Wal-Mart had a policy to have security patrols but chose to not put them into place at that store."

Cooper said Wal-Mart officials also destroyed a surveillance videotape of the attack after Riggins was convicted.

Crimes committed at dangerous retail stores and apartment complexes are a growing concern for many patrons and renters. In many instances, they are ways to prevent such crimes and resulting injuries, but the store or complex may have simply chose not to for one reason or another.
