FDA Voluntary Recall of Chicken-Basted Rawhide Chips because of Potential Salmonella Contamination

The Hartz Mountain Corporation is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of Hartz Chicken-Basted Rawhide Chips because there is a possibility the chips have been contaminated with Salmonella.
The product recalled is found in 2 pound plastic bags of Hartz Chicken-Basted Rawhide Chips. The UPC number is 3270096463 and the lot code is JC23282. This product was distributed nationwide.
Salmonella poisoning is serious and can cause infections in people and dogs. Salmonella is a gram-negative bacteria that is composed of one-celled organisms.
Symptoms if you are infected with Salmonella include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Bloody diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Cramping
- Fever
A serious case of Salmonella infection can include symptoms such arterial infections, encocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
If your pet has been infected with Salmonella, symptoms include:
- Lethargic
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Decreased appetite
- Fever
- Abdominal pain
